Thinking about getting into making knives.
I’ve had the idea to make knives for many years now and I think I’d like to move forward with that idea. My situation is somewhat unique insofar as I have access to a complete metal fabrication shop. 5 axis CNC, laser turrets, lathes, press brakes, Solid Works, you name it. Realistically the only thing I’d have to outsource would be heat treating and hardware. I guess my question is how feasible is it to make blades on a CNC? My ideal blade material would probably be things along the lines of M390, 20CV, S90V, Damascus, etc and I have access to that raw material through a network of distributors.
Making the blades is probably my biggest concern. I’m not sure if a CNC is an appropriate tool for that job. Scales and such sure, but I can’t really seem to find a good answer so I’m asking here. If anyone has used CNC for blade making, let me know how that works. Thanks!
