Crescent City

I just started this series and I really like it so far! I think this will become a genre that I really enjoy; it’s surprising me how excited I am about it!! HOWEVER, I just want some group thoughts on this from those who have read it or are reading it now- is it normal to be so confused in the beginning? Sometimes it’s like they’re speaking another language. And the characters!!! So many characters all at once!! Will all the new information like the world, houses, and….. species (???) click soon? Or does it kinda slowly ease you in with definitions and context as you go? I guess I’m just looking for what to expect going forward (:
