How to make the most out of life?

I'm 30 years old and I never had a girlfriend before. I want to change that. For the longest time, I felt self conscious about my looks due to a remark about my looks when I was a kid. I was told that all of the girls were saying I was ugly. I don't want that to hold me back anymore but I'd be lying if I said that I still wasn't self conscious about how I look. What should I do to successfully find a girlfriend? What should I do to stop being self conscious about the way I look?
